Thomas Cong Placed Second at the 2024 Regeneron Science Talent Search

March 18, 2024

Thomas Cong was awarded second place at the 2024 Regeneron Science Talent Search, America’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. Thomas researched the rapid growth of specific cancers and examined whether information controlling metabolism is primarily controlled by the expression of genetic information, as commonly believed. He found that immune cancers have pronounced differences in metabolism and gene expression, which suggests that a more complex landscape of metabolic variation exists and gives further insight into cancer studies.

Thomas Cong is a senior at Ossining High School (Ossining, NY). He joined the IICD in 2022 to work with David Tourigny, Associate Research Scientist. David Tourigny is currently a Birmingham Fellow (equivalent to assistant professor rank) at the School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham (UK) and an IICD affiliate member.
