Prior to beginning his PhD at Columbia University, James Lee conducted cancer immunology research at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, developed ultra-high-throughput single-cell assays at Scale Biosciences, and contributed to pooled perturbation screens in the Sanjana Lab at NYU and the New York Genome Center.

Now a PhD student in the Vicković Lab at the New York Genome Center, his research focuses on extending genetic perturbation approaches to intact tissue, enabling the effects of perturbations to be measured in their native spatial context. He is particularly interested in understanding how local cellular neighborhood composition influences perturbation effects in disease settings, including cancer.
