Bianca Dumitrascu Receives a MIRA R35 Award

February 24, 2025

Congratulations to IICD core faculty member Bianca Dumitrascu, Assistant Professor of Statistics and Herbert and Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Cancer Data Research, on receiving a MIRA R35 award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for her project, "Uncovering Spatio-Temporal, Mechano-Transcriptomic Signatures of Development." This five-year award will support her research until 2030.

Dr. Dumitrascu’s research explores how local molecular rules give rise to emergent spatial patterns in biological systems. Her work integrates machine learning, statistical physics, and domain adaptation to analyze spatial transcriptomic data, identifying contextual phenotypes and understanding single-cell identity and interactions. She is also interested in active learning and graphical neural networks as models for studying message passing in multi-agent biological systems.
