Joint Seminar Series
The Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics and the Probability and Society Initiative will be jointly organizing two mini-series on the topic of "Probabilistic modeling in biology" this fall on how cutting edge probabilistic methods are being applied to address questions in evolutionary biology, population genetics, and epidemiology. Friday, October 9th, 16th, 23rd, and November 6th, 13th, and 20th.
First mini-series:
Evolutionary processes and patterns of biodiversity
LECTURE 1.
Genealogy of one or many genes,
October 9, 11am-12noon

LECTURE 2.
The formation of new species,
October 16 , 11am-12noon

LECTURE 3.
Coevolving genes and species,
October 23, 11am-12noon
Second mini-series: 
Some mathematical models of evolution
LECTURE 1.
Spatial population models
November 6, 11am-12noon 

LECTURE 2.

Expanding populations
November 13, 11am-12noon

LECTURE 3.
The infinitesimal model and
evolutionary rescue

November 20, 11am-12noon
