This summer, the IICD is thrilled to welcome thirteen emerging scientists into its Summer Research Program. The 2026 cohort of undergraduate students is the largest the program has ever hosted, since its inception in 2022. The 2026 cohort of undergraduate students is the largest the program has ever hosted, since its inception in 2022, with a record number of applicants again this year.

The interns are joining IICD from universities across the country, each coming from unique academic backgrounds and interests. During their internships, they will embark on an interdisciplinary journey into cancer dynamics research– working full-time on a project under the supervision of an IICD researcher.

SRP exposes interns to lab tours, research opportunities, professional development workshops, and more to support their development as the next generation of scientists. In the past five years, the SRP has become a cornerstone of the IICD’s education and outreach initiatives. Many SRP alumni have maintained connections to IICD, ranging from returning to work on projects, collaborating on papers, or even taking on the role of mentor within the SRP program.
