Elham Azizi Receives an R01 Grant

February 17, 2023

Congratulations to Elham Azizi, Herbert and Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Cancer Data Research (in the Herbert and Florence Institute for Cancer Dynamics and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center) and Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, who was awarded an R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health for her project titled "Machine learning methods for interpreting spatial multi-omics data."

The Azizi lab integrates novel machine learning techniques and cutting-edge genomic and imaging technologies to characterize the complex populations of interacting cell types in the tumor microenvironment and their underlying circuitry to guide improved and personalized cancer therapies.

"In this project we aim to develop probabilistic and deep generative models to tackle the challenges of analyzing spatially-resolved genomic data and importantly integrate multiple data modalities. With this approach we hope to unlock novel insights about the spatial organization of cell types, their interactions, and mechanisms in multiple biological systems," explains Elham Azizi.
