Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering (IICD) Dr. Sanja Vicković received a three-year, $699,700 grant from the G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation. The project will investigate how aging reshapes spatial interactions between the host and microbiome in the colon.
Using spatial host-microbiome sequencing and computational modeling, the team will study how aging alters microbial organization, host responses, and tissue states, with the goal of identifying mechanisms that contribute to age-associated intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
The Vicković Lab uses spatial genomics, single-cell technologies, and computational methods to study how cells interact within tissues and how these interactions contribute to cancer development, progression, and treatment response.
