Faces of IICD: Joy Fan
Headshot of Joy Fan
Linyue (Joy) Fan is a third-year doctoral student (biomedical engineering) in Dr. Elham Azizi’s lab. She focuses on developing new computational tools for studying cancer evolution and differential response to therapy. In the latest "Faces of IICD" blog series, Joy shares about balancing out multiple roles as a musician, artist, writer, and scientist.

Highlights
Bridging-the-Gap-between-Diseases-of-the-StomachRead the commentary “Bridging the Gap between Diseases of the Stomach and Lower Esophagus” by Matthew Stachler on IICD researcher Karol Nowicki-Osuch’s recent Cancer Discovery publication “Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Unifies Developmental Programs of Esophageal and Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia.” Read more.

Headshots of Anna van Delft and Andrew Blumberg Congratulations to Anne van Delft and IICD faculty Andrew Blumberg who received an NSF award for their project about statistical framework for the analysis of the evolution in shape and topological structure of random objects. The project will support applications coming from two areas in genomics; cell differentiation in development and tumor evolution. Read more.

Headshot of Khanh DinhKhanh Dinh was previously a postdoctoral research in Simon Tavaré's lab and recently became an associate research scientist in the Institute. His work has been focused on inferring biological processes and parameters of interest to oncologists, by modeling cancer evolution from bulk and single-cell DNA sequencing data. Read more.

Headshot of Karol Nowicki-OsuchKarol Nowicki-Osuch, an IICD associate research scientist, accepted a Junior Group Leader at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany. His research will focus on the early biology of esophageal and gastric cancers with particular focus on approaches targeting early detection of these diseases. Learn more about his research.

IICD Welcomes Two New Members

Headshot of Abigail HickokAbigail Hickok is a new postdoctoral research scientist in Andrew Blumberg’s laboratory. She is particularly interested in applying topology and geometry to the study of single-cell genomic data. She is also interested in network science, with special focuses on the topics of network geometry and dynamics on networks. Read more.

Headshot of Yue WangYue Wang is a new associate research scientist in the Institute. Yue applies different mathematical tools (modeling, simulation, algorithm, statistical analysis, theoretical analysis with discrete mathematics, differential equation, and stochastic process) to biology, such as population dynamics, gene regulation, and developmental biology. Read more.
